Tegallinggah Cliff Temple : Historical Traces of the Uniqueness of Chiseled Cliffs in Blahbatuh Gianyar.
Tegallinggah Cliff Temple is one of the cultural heritage in Bali located in Tegallinggah Village, Blahbatuh District, Gianyar Regency. Based on archaeological research. Tegallinggah Cliff Temple is estimated to have been built in the 12th century AD, during the Bedahulu Kingdom. The temple was built by Mpu Kuturan, a Hindu priest who spread Hinduism in Bali. This temple is unique because it was built on a towering limestone cliff.
This cliff temple building is made of andesite stone and has typical Balinese architecture that combines Hindu-Buddhist elements. Even though Tebing Tegallinggah Temple is located on a cliff, this cliff is at a low altitude, different from other temples in Bali.
Tegallinggah Cliff Temple consists of three terraces connected by stairs. The first terrace is a place for prayer, the second terrace is a place for melukat, and the third terrace is a place to enjoy the view.
On the first terrace, there are several statues depicting Hindu gods and goddesses, such as Ganesha statue, Durga statue, and Nandiswara statue. On the second terrace, there is a pond used for melukat. This pool is believed to have the benefit of cleansing oneself of sins and negative energy. And from the third terrace, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view.
