Exploring Yeh Gangga Beach: Where Coastal Beauty Meets Mysterious Tales
Yeh Gangga Beach is a unique destination that blends stunning scenery with an atmosphere of mystery. This beach is known for its exotic black sand, rolling waves, and breathtaking sunset views. Its tranquility and natural beauty offer a perfect escape from the crowds. However, beyond its charm, Yeh Gangga Beach is also known for mysteries that remain taboo for visitors to this day. Yeh Gangga Beach is also a sacred place for Hindus to perform religious rituals.

Yeh Gangga Beach is located in Sudimara Village, Tabanan District, Tabanan Regency, Bali, and boasts truly amazing coastal scenery. Every day, visitors from Bali and beyond come to this beach to enjoy its tranquility.
The expanse of glistening black sand is a hallmark of Yeh Gangga Beach. This sand beautifully reflects sunlight, creating a unique spectacle rarely found on other beaches. The large, rolling waves make this beach an ideal spot for experienced surfers. In addition, the quiet atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle, provides a serene ambiance perfect for relaxing or simply enjoying the sound of the waves crashing.
This beach is 10 kilometers from the city center of Tabanan, and if you are staying in Bongan Village, the beach is only 7 to 8 kilometers away. The travel time to this beach is approximately 12 to 16 minutes from Bongan Village to Yeh Gangga Beach. The road to the beach is accessible by motorcycles and private cars, but unfortunately, large trucks such as tankers cannot enter because the road is not wide enough.
To reach this beach, you will pass through the villages of Bongan, Bedha, and Sudimara. You will be treated to views of rice fields in all three villages. The fresh air also plays a major role in enhancing the beauty and coolness found in these three villages in Tabanan. Upon arrival at the entrance, you will be asked to pay a parking fee of three thousand rupiah. The parking area at this beach is quite spacious for both private cars and motorcycles.
After paying the parking fee, the road to Yeh Gangga Beach is not far, without winding roads, just a straight road leading to the beach. Upon arriving at the Yeh Gangga Beach parking area, you can see large and calm waves when the weather is sunny. However, if it is raining, the wave size on this beach is usually very large, so no one goes out to sea.
Many things can be done on this beach, such as capturing moments by taking pictures and videos with friends, visiting beachfront restaurants, enjoying the sound of the waves on the shore, and so on.
At Yeh Gangga Beach, there is also a tsunami warning sign. It is not surprising that during heavy rain, the wave pressure on this beach increases significantly, so visitors are advised not to approach the waves and immediately run to a safe place.
In addition to the tsunami warning sign, there are also interesting spots on this beach to capture moments. The first spot you should visit is the beach itself, where many tourists enjoy the sound of the waves and take photos and videos to create Instagram stories or stories on other social media.
You can choose a good place to take pictures and capture moments with your family or friends. This beach is also suitable for capturing moments in the afternoon, around 5 pm before sunset.
The second spot on this beach is the turtle conservation area. In this turtle conservation area, there is a statue of a turtle standing upright. You can take pictures of the turtle statue, but you are not allowed to climb on it as it could damage the statue and its beauty.
Turtles that lay eggs and breed are usually placed in the turtle conservation area, and when they are adults, they will be released into the sea. The reason turtles that are still laying eggs are placed in the conservation area is to prevent them from being stepped on by tourists passing by on the beach. When the turtles have hatched, they will be placed in the conservation area first, and when they are six months old, they can be released.
On this beach, there are also food stalls and night karaoke that you can visit. Usually, at night, visitors visit the food stalls to satisfy their hunger, and some visit the night karaoke to entertain themselves and other visitors to the beach. These activities do not last until late at night.
In addition to the beautiful beach that can be enjoyed, this beach also holds mysteries that are still taboo. Things that are not allowed to be done at Yeh Gangga Beach are: not bathing near the beach, not urinating or defecating carelessly around the beach, and not entering the temple area on this beach carelessly.
Because Yeh Gangga Beach is located in the south, it is guarded by the Queen of the South Sea. If someone violates the taboos when visiting this beach, they will experience bad luck. There have been several visitors who drowned while swimming at Yeh Gangga Beach and died the next day.
Rituals After Ngaben Ceremony (Source: Private Collection)
This beach also holds religious rituals such as the ceremony of disposing of bones that have been burned in the Ngaben ceremony,Ā with the aim of returning the human soul or spirit back to its original realm. In addition, there are several temples at Yeh Gangga Beach, such as Pura Dalem Desa Pakraman Yeh Gangga. This temple is now equipped with a boundary rope to prevent visitors from entering carelessly.
Yeh Gangga Beach can be a great place to enjoy the tranquility of the sound of the waves and capture moments with friends or family, but always maintain the cleanliness of the beach and obey all the taboos that exist on this beach.
