The Prawartaka Pewintenan and Mejejaya-Jaya Ceremonies: The First Series of the Grand Yadnya of Mengwitani Traditional Village
Pewintenan Ceremonial
Mengwitani Traditional Village will hold the Grand Yadnya Ngenteg Linggih Ngusabha Desa and Mahapayu Nini, culminating on October 5, 2024. This sacred event was last held about 45 years ago, and it is now being revived with the spirit of rekindling ancestral heritage, preserving tradition, strengthening the village's spirituality, and honoring the local wisdom that forms the foundation of Mengwitani community life.

The first phase of this series of ceremonies is the Pewintenan and Mejejaya-Jaya ceremonies, participated by the Prawartaka or the event organizing committee. These ceremonies will be held on Saniscara Kliwon wuku Wayang (Tumpek Wayang), June 22, 2024, at Pura Desa Puseh Mengwitani, coinciding with the temple's festival day. These ceremonies are deeply meaningful and crucial in preparing the Prawartaka for their significant responsibilities. The ceremonies are led by the Sulinggih, who is the Yajamana Karya, Ida Peranda Putra Pasuruan, from Grya Gede Taman Lukluk.

The Pewintenan ceremony is a purification process vital for the Prawartaka. The essence of this ceremony is to cleanse oneself mentally and spiritually, preparing them for the great responsibilities they will undertake. This purification helps the Prawartaka to rid themselves of negative burdens, making them ready to receive blessings and protection in performing their duties.

In addition to the Pewintenan ceremony, the Guru Piduka ceremony is also conducted. Guru Piduka is a form of "awareness" that humans are not free from mistakes and errors made due to being unable or not yet fully capable of fulfilling the mandates of the gods or Ida Bhatara (Guru Swadyaya). This ceremony acknowledges these limitations and seeks forgiveness and guidance to continually strive for improvement.

The Mejejaya-Jaya ceremony aims to seek blessings and safety for the Prawartaka in carrying out their significant tasks. The purpose of this ceremony is to strengthen their commitment and readiness to execute their duties as the event organizers. The blessings requested from this ceremony are hoped to provide strength and success in every step they take, ensuring harmony and balance in their tasks. These blessings are especially sought from Sanghyang Widhi, particularly Ista Dewata who resides at Pura Desa Puseh Mengwitani, as the source of spiritual strength and protection.

Besides the Pewintenan ceremony, the first series of events also includes the Nunas Sica ceremony conducted by all community members (krama desa). The community uses canang don offerings at every temple or sacred place within the Mengwitani Traditional Village, including the mrajan in each household. The Nunas Sica ceremony aims to seek guidance and blessings so that the entire series of ceremonies can proceed smoothly and receive the deities' blessings.

By conducting the Pewintenan, Mejejaya-Jaya, Guru Piduka, and Nunas Sica ceremonies comprehensively performed by the community, the Prawartaka not only receive protection and blessings but also reinforce their commitment to fulfilling this significant task. These ceremonies reflect the wisdom and local knowledge that continue to thrive and color the daily life of the Balinese people, ensuring that the Yadnya is guided by the deities.
