Cosmic Harmony at Catus Pata: The Profound Philosophy of the Wisnu Murti Statue

The Wisnu Murti Statue has a long and meaningful history. Initially, the statue stood proudly at Catus Pata Kediri before being dismantled in 2015 to make way for the Bung Karno Statue. However, the aspirations of the community, yearning for their spiritual symbol, prompted the reconstruction of this statue. Through the skilled hands of local artist I Nyoman Sudarwa from Penarukan Village, Kerambitan, the statue was magnificently recreated using reinforced concrete, a durable material that allowed for intricate Balinese ornamental details.

The construction of this statue involved various complex stages, from redesigning to detailed crafting. Every element of the statue was carefully designed to reflect the rich cultural heritage of Bali and the noble values of Hinduism. This collective effort demonstrated the spirit of mutual cooperation among the people of Tabanan in preserving their cultural legacy.

Standing at a total height of approximately 9 meters, with a body height of 6.5 meters and a base height of 3 meters, the Wisnu Murti Statue faces eastward. This orientation symbolizes welcoming new energy every morning and the optimism of the Balinese people in living their lives. The choice of direction also embodies a profound spiritual meaning, as the east is often associated with the beginning of life and the source of light.

The Wisnu Murti Statue holds a strategic position within the Nyegara Gunung concept, which connects the energies of the mountains and the sea. This concept is clearly reflected in its relationship with Pura Batukaru in the mountains and Pura Tanah Lot by the sea. The harmony between these two elements forms the spiritual foundation for the Hindu community in Bali, who believe that the balance of cosmic energy is key to a harmonious life.

As a representation of Lord Vishnu, the statue also symbolizes the protector and preserver of the universe. Lord Vishnu is often depicted as the guardian of harmony, bringing prosperity and sustainability to the world. Its presence at the center of Catus Pata serves as a reminder to the community of the importance of maintaining balance between humans, nature, and God (Tri Hita Karana).

With the purification ceremony (pemlaspasan) conducted during Tilem Sasih Kanem, the statue is believed to have the power to eliminate negative energy and bring blessings to the entire Tabanan area. Four water pitchers (kendi) placed at the base of the statue as part of the ritual enhance its sacred elements, reinforcing the spiritual significance of this monumental creation.

Beyond its spiritual aspects, the statue also serves as an educational tool for younger generations, reminding them of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and introducing profound Hindu concepts such as Nyegara Gunung and Tri Hita Karana.
