According to the story in the Lontar Kutara Kanda Dewa Purana Bangsul, the people living around Lake Tamblingan were once plagued by a prolonged epidemic. To address this, a purified individual descended into a lake to fetch water, which would later be used as a remedy for the affected villagers.
Through continuous prayers and spiritual strength, the water in Lake Tamblingan became a healing elixir for the community. Following the epidemic, Lake Tamblingan in Balinese language means "Tamba" (medicine) and "Elingang" (remember), signifying a place with the ability to cure a disease that struck the villagers at that time.
Presently, several temples stand around Lake Tamblingan, making it both a tourist attraction and a spiritual site. These temples bear witness to the development of Bali's civilization and culture.
