Bali, the exotic paradise in Indonesia, is renowned not only for its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife but also for offering an unforgettable culinary experience. One of the main attractions for seafood enthusiasts is the Kedonganan Fresh Fish Market, the largest fish market on the island.

Located on Kedonganan Beach Road, Kedonganan Village, Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, this market serves not only as a place to obtain fresh fish but also as a captivating culinary hub that attracts tourists attention. Its strategic location provides easy access for visitors looking to explore the diverse seafood cuisine of Bali.

Visitors can indulge in a variety of fresh fish such as Tuna, Snapper, Grouper, and Mackerel offered by various vendors in the market. Additionally, the market presents a tempting array of non-fish seafood, including shrimp, crab, clams, and lobster. The availability of various seafood products makes Kedonganan Fish Market a comprehensive culinary destination, catering to seafood enthusiasts from all walks of life.

We had the opportunity to interview Mrs. Wayan, a vendor at Kedonganan Fish Market who has been in the trade for almost two and a half years. Mrs. Wayan offers various seafood, including Kenyar Fish, Comel Fish, and Slungsung Fish, and provides affordable clams at only 15 thousand per kilogram. Despite purchasing her goods from local fishermen, Mrs. Wayan has managed to maintain pocket-friendly pricing policies, making her products accessible to customers.

The uniqueness of this market lies in the grilled fish service scattered around the market area. After shopping, visitors can immediately savor this delicious dish by the beach. The reasonably priced grilling service, only 20 thousand rupiahs per kilogram, makes this experience even more tempting to try.

One of the grilled fish service spots caught our attention, and we had the chance to interview Mr. Bambang, an employee there. He explained that for 20 thousand per kilogram, visitors not only get tasty grilled fish but also are served with two types of sambal, namely terasi sambal and matah sambal, along with white rice. For those who want to enjoy grilled fish with white rice, they can simply add a few more rupiahs.

The cooking process begins with meticulous cleaning of the fish. Each fish is prepared with care and seasoned attentively to ensure the flavors are absorbed. Afterward, the ready-to-cook fish is neatly placed on the grill, creating a very appealing atmosphere.

Kedonganan Beach, located west of Kedonganan Fish Market, adds a romantic touch to this culinary experience. With its serene atmosphere and gentle waves, visitors can make the most of their waiting time by enjoying the spectacular sunset view. The vibrant colors of the twilight sky create a charming ambiance, completing the perfect setting to relish the seafood being prepared. This moment not only provides beautiful memories but also makes the culinary experience at Kedonganan Fish Market more special and unforgettable.

After a while, our dish arrived at our table. We tasted the Grilled Slungsung Fish, which we bought for 18 thousand for half a kilogram. The taste was truly captivating, with the freshness of the fish and the well-infused spices. The terasi sambal added the right amount of spiciness, while the matah sambal contributed a tantalizing onion aroma, albeit slightly oily.
