On the eastern coast of Bali, stands the elegant Tanjungsari Temple, a temple that holds a fascinating historical tale. Located about 100 meters south of Silayukti Temple, this temple juts into the sea at the foot of a hill, serving as a silent witness to the spiritual journey of an important figure in the history of Nusantara, Mpu Baradah.

The story of Tanjungsari Temple is intertwined with the diplomatic relations between Java and Bali in the past. Mpu Baradah, known as the younger brother of Mpu Kuturan, once undertook an important mission from King Airlangga of East Java. As the king's envoy, he traveled to Bali carrying a special mission: to request that one of Airlangga's sons be crowned as king in Bali.

However, this request was rejected by Mpu Kuturan. The wise Mpu argued that the throne of Bali should remain under the Warmadewa dynasty, specifically by Anak Wungsu, who was still related by blood as the youngest sibling of Airlangga. Despite the mission's failure, Mpu Baradah's presence in Bali left a profound spiritual legacy.

Before returning to Java, Mpu Baradah decided to temporarily reside in Bali. During his stay, he established a sacred site that later became known as Tanjungsari Temple. To this day, the sanctity of this temple is preserved through the pujawali ceremony, held every Buda Kliwon Wuku Matal. According to Rena and Jro Mangku Wayan Marsa, priests at Temple Melanting and Temple Mumbul Padangbai, during pujawali, worshippers not only perform prayers at Tanjungsari Temple and Silayukti Temple but also visit Telaga Mas Temple and Payogan Temple.

Through rituals and worship that continue to this day, the story of Mpu Baradah lives on in the collective memory of the people, reminding us of the rich history and religious heritage of Bali.
