Babad Tutuan: The Prince, the Shepherd, and the Taboo of the Timbul Fruit
Babad Tutuan is a historical manuscript cataloged as Va.5031, housed at Gedong Kirtya in Singaraja, and comes from the collection of Ida Bagus Made Rai. Written in Old Javanese, this manuscript recounts the origins and life story of I Mantri Tutuwan, beginning with his lineage from Dalem Mangori, his relationship with I Berit Kuning, and his subsequent demotion to the rank of I Mantri Tutuan an event that gave rise to the taboo against eating the “timbul” fruit. The story continues with his service to the rulers, his life as a herdsman, the development of the Tutuwan lineage, and the conflict between I Rare Angon and I Surakerta, which ended with the killing of I Rare Angon and the disappearance of the ox after it had been tended for seven days.
