Angel's Billabong is located in Banjar Sompang, Bunga Mekar Village, on the western side of Nusa Penida, Bali. The name "Angel" comes from a local belief that angels once descended and bathed here. Due to this belief, the area is bordered off, and a temple (pelinggih) has been built to prevent outsiders from approaching the sacred pool carelessly. This sacred pool is situated higher and is smaller compared to the main pool that attracts most visitors.

Meanwhile, "Billabong" is a term referring to a pool formed in a rock depression. This pool borders directly on the sea, creating a clear view that reveals the patterns and textures of the rocks beneath. During low tide, visitors can swim and enjoy the colorful pool bottom, where small fish and marine plants thrive.

However, safety is a priority at Angel's Billabong. Since the pool is directly connected to the open sea, high waves can suddenly appear, bringing the risk of being swept away for those swimming during high tide. The best time to visit is in the morning when the area is still quiet, and the tide is low for a safer experience.

The Path to Take

To access Angel's Billabong, visitors need to pass through a limestone path to reach the parking area. The entrance fee is limited to parking costs, usually around 5,000 Rupiah for motorcycles and 10,000 Rupiah for cars.

A Visit Worthwhile

Angel's Billabong not only offers breathtaking views but also a sense of tranquility for visitors looking to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Nusa Penida. Often paired with a visit to nearby Broken Beach, it allows travelers to explore two iconic natural destinations in a single trip. Visiting in the morning provides a more peaceful experience before the area gets crowded, allowing for an unobstructed view of the stunning landscape.

Angel's Billabong presents a unique blend of beauty and natural challenge. This serene, captivating natural pool with crystal-clear water reveals the fascinating rock formations beneath. However, as it borders the open sea, visitors should be cautious of sudden large waves. Enjoying Angel's Billabong means appreciating nature’s beauty while understanding its risks, especially at high tide.
