History of Tirta Bulan Temple

Tirta Bulan Temple is believed to be the legacy of Ida Dukuh Sakti, a Balinese spiritual figure known for his expertise in both physical and metaphysical healing. According to Jro Mangku Made Sergog, the temple priest, the temple was initially just a bushy area on the banks of the Tukad Wos river. This place was later discovered by the ancestors, who recognized its strong spiritual energy. Initially, the location was used as a public bathing area, but after further clearing, a cave and a natural spring were found beneath a large banyan tree.

Inside the cave, there is a tunnel about 200 meters long, with an overhead opening that resembles the shape of a full moon, which inspired the name "Tirta Bulan" (Moon’s Water). Since then, guided by metaphysical visions, the descendants of the original founders began their duties as priests at Pura Tirta Bulan.

Architecture and Layout of Pura Tirta Bulan

In the main area, or Utama Mandala, there are several “pelinggih” – shrines used to honor the gods. Important pelinggih here include Pelinggih Ida Bhatara Tengahin Segara, Pelinggih Ida Bhatara Ratu Gede Dalem Ped, and Pelinggih Ida Bhatara Ratu Dukuh Sakti Lingsir. In the Jaba Puta area (outer courtyard), there is a spring used for melukat or purification ceremonies, which are believed to cleanse negative energy.
