Babad Pande Tista: The Legacy of Swadharma and the Journey of the Pande Besi Generation

The Babad Pande Tista is a historical manuscript catalogued as Va. 4713, housed at Gedong Kirtya in Singaraja, and originates from the collection of Kakiang Dayu Putu Muliani of Geria Gede Panarukan, Kerambitan, Tabanan. The story begins with De Bandesa Kaywan’s grief over the death of his wife and continues through the arrival of Danghyang Kanaka from the Kling region, who would later pass down the swadharma teachings of blacksmithing to his descendants before returning to Java. The narrative then traces the ancestral lineage through the era of Prince Kayu Mas and Sira De Kayu Mas, who strengthened the blacksmithing tradition. Amid the dynamic movements of Arya figures and the displacement of people between regions such as Gelgel, Mambal, Sibang, and Jembrana, the Pande descendants’ bond of devotion persisted until Ki Pande eventually fled and settled in the village of Tista, Kerambitan.
