Babad Arya Kutawaringin: The Journey of Arya from the Land of Java to Gelgel
The Babad Arya Kutawaringin is a historical-genealogical manuscript written in Old Javanese using Balinese script, recorded under the number Va. 6260 in the Digital Catalog of Lontar Manuscript Copies of UPTD Gedong Kirtya Singaraja. The manuscript originates from Jero Kanginan, Sidemen, Karangasem, and recounts the journey of the Arya Kutawaringin lineage from its ancestral origins in Java to its development in Bali. The story is connected with the arrival of the Arya from Majapahit to Bali under the leadership of Mahapatih Gajah Mada, including Arya Kutawaringin, who was subsequently placed in Gelgel and played a role in the royal administration. His descendants later spread throughout various regions of Bali, including the lineage that developed in Kubon Tubuh. This babad is not merely a genealogical record of Arya Kutawaringin, but also reflects the journey of the ancestors, their migration from Java to Bali, their service to the kingdom, and the continuation of their lineage from one generation to the next.
