Babad Bangli: The Sacred Hermitage, Royal Turmoil, and the Legacy of Denkuta
Babad Bangli is a historical Balinese chronicle manuscript numbered Va. 695, preserved at Gedong Kirtya in Singaraja and originating from the collection of I Gusti Putu Jlantik and Anak Agung Negara, transcribed by I Gusti Nyoman Subali. The narrative recounts the peaceful life at Ki Dukuh Suladri's hillside hermitage, the dramatic discovery and marriage of the lost prince of Gelgel, and the subsequent political betrayal that fractured the kingdom of Swecalingarsa. From the passing of King Dalem at Toya Bubuh to the decisive war aided by Ki Panji Sakti of Buleleng, the chronicle highlights the resilience of loyal retainers led by Lurah Singarsa in securing the royal heir Kyayi Dauh at Denkuta and immortalizing these historic events in a sacred charter.
