Babad Resi Waisnawa: The Origins of Shiva-Vaishnava Teachings in Bali
Babad Resi Waisnawa is a chronicle manuscript numbered Va. 4742, preserved at Gedong Kirtya in Singaraja and originating from the collection of Geria Sunya, Kaba-kaba, Tabanan. The story follows the arrival and unification of Shiva and Buddha teachings in Bali during the reign of Ida Dewagung Airlangga, pioneered by Mpu Kuturan and Mpu Pradah. From one generation to the next, the story is filled with the spiritual evolution of Shiva-Vaishnava into the Sengguhu Bujangga tradition, and the formation of the Tri Sadaka in leading nature purification ceremonies (penangluk merana). This Babad is not merely a theological record, but also a story of the lineage journeys of key figures and the spread of spiritual guardians across various regions of Bali.
