The existence of temples as centers of worship and the preservation of ancestral values is an inseparable part of the life of Balinese Hindu society. Temples function not only as places of worship, but also as symbols of identity, history, and the continuity of spiritual relationships between humans, nature, and ancestors. In this context, kawitan temples hold a very important position as places of ancestral origin worship for a lineage or clan, as well as serving as a medium for the inheritance of cultural, traditional, and religious values from one generation to the next.

Pura Kawitan Pulasari, also known as Pura Padharman Pusat Ida Bhatara Dalem Tarukan, is an ancestral temple that plays an important role in the spiritual lives of the Balinese people. The temple was established in 1399 AD and serves as a place of worship for Ida Bhatara Dalem Tarukan, a sacred figure believed to have had a significant influence on the development of Balinese culture, history, and Hinduism. Since 1969, the temple has been unified under the organization Para Gotra Santana Dalem Tarukan, which aims to preserve the traditions and lineage of Ida Bhatara Dalem Tarukan. Within this sacred place, devotees offer prayers and perform rituals dedicated to the purified ancestral spirits, maintaining a deep spiritual connection with their heritage.

Offerings such as canang sari, pejati, and daksina are meticulously prepared to express gratitude and devotion. The rituals include prayers, Ngaturang Ayah, and Tawur, which are symbolic offerings seeking safety, prosperity, and environmental harmony. Another significant ritual is the Pitra Yadnya, a sacred ceremony aimed at purifying the spirits of ancestors, guiding them toward the divine realm. These traditions reflect the deep respect for ancestral connections and the spiritual philosophy that underpins Balinese Hinduism.

Pura Padharman serves as the central shrine for Ida Bhatara Dalem Tarukan, a revered ancestor believed to descend from the royal lineage of ancient Bali. According to Balinese palm-leaf manuscripts (lontar) and oral traditions, Ida Bhatara Dalem Tarukan is closely connected to the Warmadewa Dynasty and played a key role in shaping Hindu civilization in Bali. Balinese Hindus who have a spiritual lineage with Ida Bhatara Dalem Tarukan frequently visit the temple to perform Ngaturang Bhaktiprayers and offerings of canang (flower offerings). However, the temple is not limited to his descendants; all Hindus are welcome to seek blessings, prosperity, and life balance.
