According to ancient lontars and folklore, Mount Tapak is closely related to Prabhu Jaya Pangus, the Balinese king who ruled in the 12th century. He was known as a wise king, but his life was filled with unique stories, especially his marriage to a Chinese princess named Kang Cing Wie.

The legend states that in the area around Mount Tapak, the spiritual traces of Prabhu Jaya Pangus left their mark. Some versions of the story say that this mountain was the place where he meditated to gain strength and enlightenment. Therefore, to this day, Mount Tapak is still considered sacred, especially by Balinese Hindus.
