Temeling : The Beauty of Natural Tourism in the Form of Springs and Natural Pools
Nusa Penida, an island southeast of Bali, is a hidden gem known for its untouched natural beauty. With dramatic cliffs, exotic beaches, and crystal-clear waters, it offers a serene escape from Bali's busy tourism. This peaceful destination has gained global recognition for its stunning natural adventures, captivating visitors from around the world.
One of the must-visit destinations in the western part of Nusa Penida specifically in Banjar Saren, Batumadeg Village, is Temeling, a secluded area that offers a blend of natural beauty in the form of natural pools and a hidden beach. Although reaching it requires extra effort, such as descending steep roads and navigating a challenging path, the experience that awaits at Temeling makes the entire journey worthwhile. With pools filled with fresh water from natural springs and the serene atmosphere of a tropical forest, Temeling is the ideal place to escape the crowds and experience the tranquility that can only be found in the wild.

Temeling’s main attraction lies in its two natural pools, filled with fresh water from underground springs. The cool and clear waters make it a perfect spot to refresh after visiting other popular destinations in Nusa Penida, such as Angel Billabong and Kelingking Beach. These pools offer a unique experience, like being in a natural infinity pool surrounded by lush forest, with a backdrop of the vast blue ocean.
Each pool in Temeling has its own distinct characteristics. The larger pool is commonly used for swimming by visitors, while the smaller pool at the bottom is usually used for children and women. Once inside the pools, the refreshing sensation of the natural water combines with the peaceful ambiance of the tropical forest, far from the noise of the city.

In addition to its beautiful pools, Temeling also has a small hidden beach, complete with swings and photo spots that are perfect for enhancing a social media gallery. Although the beach is not as large as other beaches in Nusa Penida, like Crystal Bay or Atuh Beach, the scenery here remains captivating. The stretch of white sand, paired with the blue ocean, creates a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxing by the shore.
However, if swimming in the natural pools is not on the agenda, Temeling Beach alone may not be a strong enough reason to visit, as there are larger and more easily accessible beaches in Nusa Penida. But for those seeking solitude and hidden beauty, this beach is still worth exploring.
A Challenging Access

One important thing to note before visiting Temeling is the challenging access. To reach the pools and beach, travelers must navigate a long, steep, and narrow path. Confident drivers can take their scooters down to the lower parking area, but for those less experienced, it is recommended to park at the upper area and continue on foot or by hiring a local motorbike taxi. The cost of the motorbike taxi can go up to 100,000 IDR for a round trip.
From the lower parking area, a five-minute walk and about 230 steps must still be descended to reach the pools. The total journey, including driving from the central part of Nusa Penida, takes about 1.5 hours. If walking from the upper parking lot, it could take 2-3 hours. Though the journey may be tiring, the beauty awaiting at Temeling will make the effort feel more than worthwhile.
Temeling is a destination that offers pristine natural beauty in the form of natural pools and a hidden beach in Banjar Saren, Nusa Penida. Despite the challenging and difficult access, this place provides an unforgettable experience for those seeking adventure and peace. Temeling is the perfect spot to refresh the body while enjoying views rarely found in other destinations. Physical preparation is essential, but the effort is rewarded with the tranquility and stunning natural beauty that make the journey more than worthwhile.
