Sanggar Seni Yasa Putra Sedana was established in 1996 at the initiative of two brothers, Dewa Rai Budiasa and Dewa Putra Diasa. The founding of this studio was driven by a passion to preserve Balinese art and culture while also empowering the community, particularly the village’s younger generation, by providing them with a space to create. Even before its official establishment, the studio had already been actively organizing performances. In 1995, they introduced the “Barong–Legong & Dinner Show” package, which was conceived as part of a competency test by the Bali Provincial Institute of Language and Culture (Listibya). This performance later developed into one of the region’s most prominent cultural tourism products, well known even internationally.

Over time, Sanggar Yasa Putra Sedana has become widely recognized as one of the most active studios in organizing performances for tourists. The tour packages they offer generally include a welcoming ceremony, traditional dance performances such as Pendet Dance, Legong Dance, Barong Dance, and even the Ramayana ballet, followed by a communal dinner. This performance concept provides visitors with a comprehensive cultural experience, allowing them not only to watch Balinese dances but also to immerse themselves in the island’s traditional atmosphere.
Beyond the local stage, the studio has also frequently performed internationally. In 2011, Sanggar Yasa Putra Sedana was invited by UNESCO to perform at the Folklore Festival in France. This opportunity served as proof of global recognition of the quality of their art. More recently, in 2023, the studio once again brought pride to Bali by performing at the National Ramayan Mahotsav in India, an international festival showcasing Ramayana ballets from various countries.

The presence of Sanggar Yasa Putra Sedana not only plays a role in cultural preservation but also generates a significant economic impact on the surrounding community. The regular performances successfully attract thousands of tourists each year, particularly international visitors. This creates new business opportunities, such as accommodations, Balinese culinary offerings, and handicrafts as souvenirs. As a result, Pengaji Village and Melinggih Kelod Village have become increasingly recognized as cultural tourism destinations thanks to the studio’s contributions.
In addition, the studio also serves as a non-formal educational platform for the village’s children and teenagers. They are given the opportunity to learn traditional dance, play gamelan, and participate in performances. This ensures the continuation of Bali’s artistic lineage while protecting the younger generation from the negative influences of modernization.

Sanggar Yasa Putra Sedana has earned numerous awards in recognition of its dedication to cultural preservation. The studio received the Citra Raksata Certificate from the Gianyar Regency Government for its Barong–Legong cultural tourism package. In addition, in 2022, they were also honored with the Parama Patram Budaya – Excellent Category Award from the Bali Provincial Government. This recognition affirms that the studio is not only active at the community level but also formally acknowledged by local authorities.
Sanggar Seni Yasa Putra Sedana stands as a tangible example of how traditional arts can be preserved while simultaneously being developed into cultural tourism attractions. With its long history, consistent activities, economic contributions to the community, and international achievements, this studio plays a crucial role in maintaining Bali’s reputation as a cultural hub. Moving forward, efforts to strengthen infrastructure, improve service quality, and expand promotional networks will be key to ensuring the studio remains relevant and sustainable. The presence of Yasa Putra Sedana demonstrates that Balinese art and culture are not merely relics of the past, but valuable assets for the future that can connect local traditions with the international community.
