Amidst the hustle and bustle of Denpasar, a city that continues to grow as a modern urban center, there is still room for tradition to breathe. One of the main purposes of establishing Sanggar Sekar Mangaronce is to preserve Balinese culture, particularly the art of gamelan music. As stated by its manager, the sanggar focuses on various forms of traditional Balinese music that remain rich in philosophical and ritual values. In the midst of modernization, Sekar Mangaronce serves as a balancing force, reminding society that culture is not merely a legacy, but also an identity that must be safeguarded and passed down.

History and Leadership

The sanggar was founded by the late I Made Sumadi in 2011. Over time, its management was entrusted entirely to I Nyoman Subaktiyasa. With the support of Balinese gamelan enthusiasts and students, the sanggar has grown into a solid community. Its family-based leadership creates a warm atmosphere, allowing every member to feel like an essential part of preserving tradition.

Location and Activities

Located at Jl. Letda Kajeng No.27, Dangin Puri Klod, East Denpasar, Bali 80234, the sanggar serves as a hub for training, learning, and artistic creativity. Here, young generations can participate in various gamelan lessons, including angklung, rambat, selonding, gender, gong kebyar, tabuh, and rindik.

Interestingly, the gender instrument has become a favorite among youth, proving that traditional arts can still capture the interest of newer generations. In addition to routine training, Sekar Mangaronce actively performs in various activities—ranging from government ceremonies, cultural festivals, competitions, to ngayah (voluntary service) at Balinese temples.

Achievements to Be Proud Of

Sanggar Sekar Mangaronce not only remains consistent in preserving tradition, but has also earned numerous achievements in cultural and artistic events. The awards it has received serve as proof of the quality, dedication, and hard work of its members in developing Balinese gamelan art. These accomplishments have further strengthened Sekar Mangaronce’s reputation as one of the outstanding art communities in Denpasar. More than just symbols of victory, these achievements reflect the spirit of cultural preservation, which continues to move in harmony with modern development and contemporary achievements.

Inovation and Adaptation

To face the challenges of modernization, the sanggar does not isolate itself. On the contrary, Sekar Mangaronce actively embraces innovation. One of its efforts includes utilizing social media as a platform for promotion and activity documentation. Through this approach, the sanggar has been able to connect more closely with the younger generation, who are naturally more familiar with the digital world.

This innovation also proves that tradition can coexist with technology. Balinese gamelan, often considered old-fashioned, can now appear in refreshing digital formats, thereby expanding its reach to wider audiences.

Hopes for the Future

As a cultural institution, Sekar Mangaronce aspires to maintain its existence in the world of Balinese gamelan arts. Its greatest hope is that the younger generation will not only recognize, but also love traditional arts as part of their personal identity. In this way, Balinese culture will continue to live, adapt, and remain a source of pride capable of transcending both time and space.
